Canyon Lake is somewhat of a hidden gem and well kept secret. Located about 16 miles northwest of New Braunfels and roughly 40 miles to the north of San Antonio, Canyon Lake was created by damming the Guadalupe River in 1958 to provide both flood control and water conservation and the impoundment of the lake began in 1964 and by 1968 Canyon Lake was filled to its conservation level. Canyon Lake is best known for it’s clear water, rolling hills, and beautiful scenery and it’s wide range of recreational activities. The boating is terrific, the fishing is good, and there are 8 parks around the lake plus biking and hiking trails, a great golf course, and plenty of Canyon Lake cabins, lodging, and vacation rentals plus motels and RV parks.
