Marble Falls, population around 6500, was founded in 1887 and named for the the Colorado River waterfalls over marble outcroppings that were visible before the dam was built to form Lake Marble Falls. The City gained it's fame by providing pink granite from the nearby Granite Mountain which was used to construct the Texas State Capital Building in Austin.
