Some good friends invited us to spend the weekend with them at their lake house on Lake LBJ. It’s one of our favorite Texas lakes. That’s why it took us a millisecond to ask, “What time should we be there?”

In no time, the car was loaded with beer, golf clubs, swim suits, and games.

Delaware Spring Golf Course

We met some friends at Delaware Springs Golf Course in Burnet because it is on the way from our house to Lake LBJ.

Delaware Springs Golf Course has a relatively straight-forward layout with good conditions, reasonable rates, and no real trouble unless you miss the fairway. The tall native grass devoured five of my golf balls. Oh, and best of all, they serve an excellent frozen Margarita! Thanks to my golf score, I had to buy the rounds, which I didn’t mind because the margaritas were so good!

Shortly after golf, we sat on the deck, enjoyed the view of the lake and the huge beautiful homes, and sipped more margaritas. On top of that, we enjoyed some rousing hands of 42 dominoes and dined on some delicious pork chops with a peanut sauce. Fun day!

Applehead Island and Boat Town

The next morning, we played more dominos after a scrambled egg breakfast. Then the ladies took a long walk though Applehead Island to marvel at the huge, beautiful multi-million dollar homes. Our host took a grueling bike ride while I zoomed through the neighborhood on a jet ski. They came back tired, hot, and sweaty, but I was cool and ready to roll.

Wow! Applehead Island is loaded with beautiful multi-million dollar homes.

For lunch, we boated over to Boat Town, which is a cool restaurant and bar on the edge of Lake LBJ in nearby Kingsland. They have a great outdoor patio, picnic tables on the grass, a swimming area, a live music stage, and some good burgers. Margaritas and dominoes overlooking the lake is hard to beat.

Horseshoe Bay

That evening, we went to the Horseshoe Bay Yacht Club for dinner and music.

The yacht club is really cool. Half of the property sits on the edge of Lake LBJ with a nice sandy beach, beach chairs, and umbrellas. It felt like we were on a beach in Florida.

The rest of the property has a restaurant, a very cool black lava rock hot tub, a swimming pool, and a patio on the edge of the lake. The buffet was okay and a piano player sang Beatles and Elton John songs as we ate and drank. Then it was back to the house for a night cap and finish the domino tournament.

Before leaving to head home, we played a round of golf on Horseshoe Bay’s Ram Rock Golf Course. In addition to Horseshoe Bay Resort (which we can highly recommend) and the yacht club, Horseshoe Bay has four outstanding golf courses. All of them made our list of the Best Resort Courses in Texas. Ram Rock is our favorite. It’s very challenging, extremely scenic, in near perfect condition, and a blast to play.

It was a fun weekend. I hope we get invited back.
