Louisiana’s Audubon Golf Trail
Louisiana’s Audubon Golf Trail has got to be one of the best golf trails in the United States. It has 16 courses on the trail that were designed by some of the best designers including Hal Sutton, David Toms, Pete Dye, and the natural beauty of Louisiana. The Audubon Trail golf courses are all members of the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary for Golf Courses, a program dedicated to protecting the environment and preserving the natural heritage of the game of golf. Sitting on a bank overlooking Toledo Bend Lake, Cypress Bend Resort is home to some great lodging, fun amenities, good food, and a beautiful 18 holes of golf. The course has ten holes that play along the shoreline of Toledo Bend Lake – beware six of the ten have shots across across hidden coves and inlets. Gray Plantation has it all – reasonable rates, fun holes, lots of variety, excellent conditions, and it’s fair but challenging. It’s not surprising that Golf Digest placed Gray Plantation in the top 100 of America’s greatest public courses and GOLF Magazine ranked it as one of the âtop three among 50 best U.S. courses for $50 or less.â During your round you’ll need to manage (that means avoid if you want to score well) sixty acres of lakes, 94 bunkers, and dense forests with towering pines! The clubhouses (a raised plantation house surrounded by scenic marshland) is as impressive and jaw dropping as Gray Plantation’s four dynamic par 3s, two of which feature island greens. |

Plaquemine, LA Texas Outside Rating: 8.8

Located south west of Baton Rouge and designed by Mike Young, The Island was carved out of a sugar plantation that is surrounded by Bayou Jacob and Bayou Plaquemine. Mike designed the course to leverage the two bayous and nine lakes to create a challenging but fair course with water on 17 of the 18 holes. The water and 56 bunkers force you to play smart and deploy some good course management skills if you want to turn in a good score. With yardages ranging from 5406 to over 7000 yards it’s critical that you pick a set of tee boxes that fits you skill level and you’ll have a fun and enjoyable round at a very reasonable rate. . |
