Junction Texas Top Ten Things To Do

Scenic Drives – There are several scenic drives nearby – one of most impressive is U.S. 377 southwest as it travels along the South Llano River. From Junction, take 377 South to 41 and head east. Make a right on 335 and head south for some incredible scenery. When you get to Barksdale, take 55 over to Camp Wood and have lunch. Then, get back on 55 going west to Rocksprings and connect back up with 377. Head north to get back to Junction. You’ll see the incredible diversity that Texas has to offer in about four hours by motorcycle/two hours by car: Trans Pecos terrain to the West; South Texas terrain to the South; and Hill Country terrain to the East. On one side of the road there may be a canyon and on the other side a rock bluff – there’s gonna be water in there somewhere. Be careful – twisty roads, lots of hills, and some hairpin turns. Another drive is to take Hwy 83 South from Junction to Rocksprings, then take 55 over to Campwood. From there, turn around and take 335 North. When you get to 41, take a left back over to Hwy 83. Go north to head back to Junction. You’ll see the incredible diversity that Texas has to offer in about four hours: Trans Pecos terrain to the West; South Texas terrain to the East; and Hill Country terrain to the West. Camping – 5 miles south of Junction is South Llano River State Park which has 56 campsites with water and electricity, 6 walk-in sites with water, restrooms, showers, dump station, picnic area, and playground plus 2 miles of South Llano River frontage.

Hiking – South Llano State Park has two miles of hiking trails in the river bottom and the Walter Buck State Wildlife Management Area has 18 miles of hiking trails

Kayaking & Canoeing – the South Llano River is good for canoeing and kayaking as is the section of the river where the South Llano River joins the North Llano River at the Junction City Park just downstream from the dam, creating the Main Llano River which then travels across miles of the Hill Country terrain and empties into the Colorado River. Mountain Biking – South Llano State Park has two miles of mountain biking trails in the river bottom and the Walter Buck State Wildlife Management Area has 18 miles of mountain bike trails

Walter Buck State Wildlife Management Area – adjacent to the South Llano River State Park is Walter Buck State Wildlife Management Area which is excellent for bird watching, hiking, and mountain biking

Golf – play the challenging 9 hole course a mile south of Junction or any of the other nearby courses
