Texas Obstacle Course Races & Mud Runs

You may already know that obstacle course races or mud runs have become very popular in recent years in Texas. Each year Texas has over 40 obstacle course races and mud runs. Over 2 million Americans participate in mud runs or obstacle course races every year and Texas will host more races than any other state?

If you haven’t yet tried out an obstacle course race, imagine a typical run and then pile on obstacles, costumes, mud and a beer as soon as you cross the finish line. These events cater to serious athletes and complete novices alike. The majority of the events are about 3 miles long and very beginner friendly, but some of the more hardcore events do require a great deal of training and physical stamina. Texas will see appearances from all of the major national race series this year, including the Warrior Dash, Spartan Race and Tough Mudder. These 3 races attract more participants than any other series, and they all feature traditional boot-camp style obstacles like crawling under barbed wire and cargo net climbs. While the Warrior Dash is a great choice for beginners, the Tough Mudder is a 10-mile race that requires some pretty intense training. The Spartan Race series has events for all different skill levels.

Though obstacle course racing has its roots in these military-style races, several themed races have added their own twist on the sport. Texans can jump over fire and slide down poles in the firefighter themed Hero Rush or they can escape from prison guards in the Texas-only Jailbreak. Women who prefer to run without the guys around can also choose from three different women-only events coming to the state.
