At the heart of rural North Texas, a significant milestone for veteran healthcare has been quietly making waves. The VA Bonham Medical Center recently completed what is now recognized as the only fully executed on-time EHRM (Electronic Health Record Modernization) infrastructure project across the entire Veterans Affairs system. This momentous achievement demonstrates not only technical excellence but also a profound commitment to transforming the quality of care delivered to America’s veterans.

The VA Bonham EHRM Infrastructure Upgrades Project (VA Project #549A4-21-700) was designed to lay the digital groundwork for a new era of medical record accessibility and efficiency. Spanning multiple buildings across the Bonham campus, the project included a wide array of improvements: new Data Center, new telecommunications rooms (TRs), a redundant fiber optic backbone, fire-rated data cabling infrastructure, environmental controls, power enhancements, and clean agent fire suppression systems for critical IT spaces. These upgrades bring the VA’s vision of seamless electronic health record access one step closer to reality.

“Richard and their team were a joy to work with,” said the project’s Contracting Officer’s Representative. “They were safe, clean, and communicated well.”

That praise encapsulates the spirit of collaboration and precision that defined every phase of construction and integration. In addition, this project was completed with 0 change order requests from Richard Group. This is a rare and amazing feat on any construction project.

VA Leading Electronic Health Records into the Future

“It’s been an absolute honor for our team at The Richard Group to contribute to this important mission. We’re proud to have played a small role in supporting the care of our Veterans by completing this milestone project. Working alongside the exceptional construction teams and EHRM leadership at the Bonham VA was a privilege—we’re grateful for the collaboration and shared commitment to excellence.”

What sets this project apart is not only its technical scope but its direct impact on veteran care. Each patient room, clinician’s office, and support area are now digitally connected through high-speed, secure fiber optics to the VA’s centralized electronic health record system. This allows for instant access to a veteran’s full medical history—no matter where care is delivered within the facility. Doctors and nurses can update and retrieve records in real time, reducing delays, minimizing errors, and improving clinical decision-making.
