The Perfect Blend of Lake Latitude and Island Attitude
Margaritaville Lake Resort Lake Conroe opened in June of 2020 and the resort is Inspired by the lyrics and lifestyle of singer, songwriter and best-selling author Jimmy Buffett. You can sip frozen drinks at the It’s 5 O’clock Somewhere swim-up pool bar, sit on a bar stool under a thatched umbrella or relax in a hammock at Toes in the Sand on the edge of Lake Conroe. Our Stay At The Resort
We stayed at Margaritaville Lake Resort for four days and loved every minute of it! We can highly recommend it for a fun and memorable staycation, weekend getaway, golf stay and play, or a corporate event, reunion, or wedding. The reasons are numerous, including that the staff and island vibe are fantastic, there are several dining and drinking options, the suites and lake cottages are excellent, and the amenities and things to do are outstanding and fun for all ages.
The Margaritaville Lake Resort Vibe & Staff
As soon as we saw the resort logo and entered the resort doors, heard Jimmy Buffett singing in the background, and saw the huge flip flop and pop top, colorful flowers, tropical pictures of parrots, sailing, and beaches, we immediacy felt the island vibe and knew that we were in for a good time. Contributing to the laid back fun vibe was the Margaritaville Lake Resort staff – all of whom we found attentive, enthusiastic about their job and the resort, and very friendly and outgoing.
In fact, when we walked in to register, one of the registration staff had stepped out from behind her desk and was dancing to one of Buffett’s song, waving, swaying to the music, and warmly greeting us. It didn’t take us long to understand why Margaritaville Lake Resort’s motto is “the perfect blend of lake latitude and island attitude.”
Our first decision (after putting on our flip flops and bathing suits) was where to find enjoy a frozen concoction. The lyrics to Jimmy Buffett’s “Margaritaville” quickly came to mind as I went in search of our first drink which would start a relaxing stay “wastin’ away again in Margaritaville.”
Drinks and Dining at Margaritaville Lake Resort
Which leads me to mention one of the other reasons why we love Margaritaville Lake Resort – they have a five different choices for libations and food.
Since it was only 2 o’clock, naturally our first stop had to be the 5 O’clock Somewhere Pool Bar. It’s hard to beat sitting on a bar stool at the swim-up bar! Match this with grabbing a Hurricane and floating in the pool, and the words to this Buffett song rang true:
“Pour me somethin’ tall and strong
Make it a Hurricane before I go insane
It’s only half past twelve, but I don’t care
It’s five o’clock somewhere”
Places To Eat At The Lake Resort
Landshark Bar & Grill was our second favorite go-to place, and is it’s unbelievable. It’s a coastal beach bar with a beautiful panoramic view of Lake Conroe from the deck. It has a sandy beach with lawn chairs and bar stools under thatched umbrellas (appropriately named Toes in the Sand), a fire pit, and a wide variety of food options plus live entertainment on the deck. The Landshark menu is huge with lots of choices. They had food ranging from appetizers to salads to sandwiches, burgers, entrees, and shark bites for the kids.
By far our favorite was the Hawaiian Luau Burger. It has two beef patties topped with smoked bacon, grilled pineapple, mango teriyaki sauce, lettuce and tomato and a tasty bun – my mouth just started watering as I think about how good this burger was! We also enjoyed some shrimp ceviche, chicken tenders, Caribbean chicken salad, and a shrimp po’ boy and, of course, some delicious frozen drinks.
Lone Palm Pool Bar
No shoes, no shirt, no problem at the Lone Palm Pool Bar in Jolly Mon. This “flip flop friendly” thatched roof tiki bar and grill has mixed drinks, beer and wine, pool type food (burgers, dogs, nachos, chips, steak tacos, and lots more) and a variety of fancy margaritas! We couldn’t resist grabbing a Fins to the Left Margarita and taking a few laps around the lazy river – it just doesn’t get much better!
The License to Chill Bar & Grill is the place to go for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We enjoyed a good breakfast (a huge fresh fruit plate and eggs and bacon) and BBQ chicken and Jerk Salmon for dinner. We loved sitting outside overlooking the pools and lake with a beautiful sunset.
For coffee or a quick snack, Joe Merchant’s Coffee & Provisions has some breakfast sandwiches, pizza and more. For golfers, Playin’ A Round Cafe at the Pro Shop offers a selection of sandwiches, salads, and refreshments.
Not many resorts offer such a wide range of options for dining and drinking!
Fun Things To Do at Margaritaville Lake Resort
You and the kids won’t get bored during a stay at Margaritaville Lake Resort, which is another reason why we can’t wait to get back again. Margaritaville Lake Resort offers something for everyone to do – from toddlers to seniors. All of the activities are on site. They are an easy to walk to from your suite in the resort tower or lake cottages.
We started our first day of activities with a round of golf at The Golf Club at Margaritaville Lake Resort. The course is home to a pro shop, cafe, putting green, driving range, and an 18 hole golf course with a great layout. As the course meanders through tall pines you’ll face challenging doglegs, tight fairways, water on 10 holes, 59 soft sand bunkers, and challenging green complexes. The course is fun, fair, and reasonably priced. Read our review to learn more about The Golf Club at Margaritaville Lake Resort.
After a good lunch, a couple drinks, and a refreshing dip in the pool we took a short walk to St. Somewhere Spa – how can you beat a relaxing massage after 18 holes of golf. As soon as we entered, I was taken on a brief tour of the spa and given a key to a locker in the men’s room where I found a very soft and comfortable robe and some slippers.
As I was relaxing in one of the lounge chairs about ready to nod off, my masseuse found me and led me to a treatment room for one of the best 50 minute massages I’ve ever had! After my massage I sat in the jacuzzi for a few minutes and then I had to try the 3 hole putt-putt course – I wish I could have putted as well on the golf course. Mrs Texas Outside loved her pedicure and manicure and looked radiant after they worked on her for over 90 minutes.
St. Somewhere Spa has a variety of services that they offer, some of which include:
- massage therapies including a Himalayan Salt Stone Massage
- several different types of facials
- body treatments like the Himalayan Super Fruit Body Peel with age-reversing antioxidants from Pomegranate, Goji, Acai, and Bilberry
- services for the men like a Fitness Facial, Manly Manicure & Pedicure, and Men’s Hair Cut & Style
- a variety of nail and salon services
In addition all of those services, during your visit you can enjoy the other amenities. These include a hot tub, steam room, Turkish scrub room, Turkish Haman room (similar to a Scandinavian sauna or a Roman bath), or the float bath room. A fantastic place to spend a couple hours getting rid of all your kinks and stress!
The kids, and us kids at heart, will love Jolly Mon which is three acres of fun with a lazy river, a pool with lots of watery amenities. These include big water slides, a hot tub, a splash zone with a playscape and a dunking bucket, plus another splash zone for toddlers. Margaritaville Lake Resort also has a slew of daily activities that range from water balloon toss to family karaoke, s’mores, scavenger hunts, movies, putt-putt contests, bucket pong, and lots more.

- Live Life Like A Song Margaritaville Store with t-shirts, souvenirs, and more
Margaritaville Lake Resort Accommodations
After a full day of activities, I really enjoyed our soft luxury king sized bed. The accommodations at the resort are some of the best of any resort that we have stayed at in all of Texas. The 20 story tower is home to 330 luxurious all-suite accommodations, all of which have a fabulous lake view. The suites are furnished with a light and airy color palette inspired by the colors of the lake. You can just feel the sand and sky. Plus there were paintings and pictures of parrots, boats, sandy beaches and swaying palm trees. It was making me feel like I was on vacation in the Caribbean!
Details on the Suites
Each suite is over over 600 square feet with a large bedroom, living room, huge bathroom. They also have a glass rain shower and separate bathtub, and private balcony or patio overlooking the lake. Each room in the suite has a 55″ flat screen TV and framed pictures. The furniture is upscale and nice. The living area has a large desk, sleeper sofa, coffee table, Keurig coffee maker, safe, and mini fridge . The rooms are oversized, comfortable, and uniquely Margaritaville. We were on the 14th floor with a balcony and two chairs. It was a stunning view of the resort pools and Lake Conroe. This made for a perfect evening with a cocktail and magnificent sunset! And that comfortable king bed was outstanding – I woke up refreshed and ready to do it again the next day!
Sprinkled along the shoreline of Lake Conroe are 32 cool lake cottages. These are great for family and friends for a fun getaway. The pastel colors of the cottages (blue, orange, green, turquoise) offer a refreshing island vibe. The front porch of the cottage is superb to view Lake Conroe’s sunrises and sunsets. Eleven of the cottages have a king bed in a separate bedroom and a sleeper sofa in the living room. The other 21 cottages are one bedroom plus a kid friendly loft with two full size beds. Some of the cottages have boat slips in front of them. You will have parking in front of their cottage and access to all of the resort amenities, which are a couple minutes walk away.
