Rock Creek Resort Golf Community Review
Nestled along the shore of beautiful Lake Texoma is one of the best private golf courses and golf communities in Texas – it doesn’t get much better than Rock Creek Resort, which is one of Double Diamond’s upscale properties and opened in 2008. Rock Creek Resort is home to lots and home sites with views of beautiful Lake Texoma, the golf course, any of several ponds, or the stunning rolling countryside. The property consists of over 1300 acres of gently rolling heavily treed terrain leading to a quarter mile of shoreline on Lake Texoma, from our perspective one of the best lakes in Texas.
Like other Double Diamond properties, Rock Creek has several resort style amenities: an outstanding private 18 hole championship golf course, putting green and driving range, a full service marina and ship store, a clubhouse and pro shop, a restaurant, a waterfront park and security. Plans for 2016 include a tennis center, spa & fitness center, and playground. Several acres of Rock Creek property adjoin U.S. Corp of Engineer property with lots of shoreline on Lake Texoma.
Double Diamond Companies is widely recognized as one of the premier developers of residential home and golf communities in the United States and currently has well over 16,000 acres of land in six upscale resort/residential properties – four of which are in Texas; Rock Creek on Lake Texoma, White Bluff on Lake Whitney, The Retreat in Cleburne, and the Cliffs on Lake Possum Kingdom. We have visited all four properties and can attest to the picturesque natural setting, upscale and first class accommodations and amenities, attention to detail and maintenance, and outstanding championship golf courses. Rock Creek Resort property owners receive discounts on dining, golf, and the spa at the other Double Diamond properties. We have also played all five of the Double Diamond golf courses in Texas and each one is phenomenal – in fact three of the five are rated in our Best Private Golf Courses and Best Resort Golf Courses Texas. To learn more about each of the Double Diamond properties in Texas read our reviews of the The Retreat and the Stay & Play review of The Cliffs.
As you pass through the well landscaped security monitored and controlled access gate and the very impressive greeting and information center, you immediately sense that you’re in for a special treat. All of the main roads are paved and lead you through gently rolling, heavily treed terrain that feels like you’re in the Texas Hill Country. All of the property is well maintained and manicured and divided into several sub divisions with lots for sale.
You have plenty of choices for prime lots – you can choose from fully wooded lots loaded with hardwood trees and plenty of rustic charm, flat level open lots with views for miles, lots close to the entry gate for easy access in or out of Rock Creek, lots close to a pool or overlooking one of several ponds, or lots with views of the lake or overlooking the golf course.
See this Rock Creek Property Map to get a birds eye view of this prime piece of real estate and to see each of the property additions. In 2015, there were several new homes that sprung up since our last visit, over 60 homes and several more that were under construction.
One of the major pluses for Rock Creek is that it has great access to one of the best lakes in Texas. Lake Texoma is one of the largest lakes in Texas with over 89,000 acres and 1250 miles of shoreline. The water is clear, the fishing is excellent for stripers, the sandy beaches are perfect for a picnic and an afternoon in the sun, and there are some good coves with smooth water for boarding or just dropping an anchor and wasting the day away. Rock Creek has a ships store, boat ramp, and slips available for rent. Lake Texoma is also home to lots of good fishing guides, places to rent boats, as well as restaurants and bars with live music that you can boat up to.
Use this interactive map of Lake Texoma to find things to see and do on the lake and our review of Lake Texoma will tell you more about why we think it is one of the best lakes in Texas.

In addition, members get to enjoy a fantastic and upscale club house and one of the best private golf courses in Texas. The club house is stunning and home to a very well stocked Pro Shop with everything you need to both play well and look good, men’s and women’s locker rooms, a great bar area, a restaurant serving some tasty food, and an outdoor patio with a bar area that overlooks a couple of the golf course holes and the putting green. A perfect place to enjoy a good meal, socialize with friends, or have a cold drink and reminisce about your round of golf or heckle the golfers trying to sink their putt on 18.
Speaking of golf, Jack Nicklaus designed this fantastic layout to leverage the natural beauty of the gently rolling terrain as it meanders up and down the hills, through the hundred-year-old towering oaks, and beside and across natural flowing creeks. Jack built an outstanding 18 hole championship golf course that is fun yet demanding, loaded with lots to test your game, and a terrific layout with plenty of variety, making it a blast to play. The front is the easiest of the nines and the #1 hole is the first of the many “wow” or “holy cow” holes. You can pull out the big dog on this nine and let it rip but you need to avoid the 35 treacherous bunkers that are waiting for any errant golf balls.
The front nine is a warm up for the back which is much tighter from tee to the cup and there are plenty of hazards along the way to the green. Plus the greens are well guarded, raised, and much smaller and much more undulating with tiers, steep slope, ridges, and spines. But don’t let that scare you, it’s fair and offers more variety and some very fun, interesting, unique, and demanding holes – a number of which are “wows.” Read our review of Rock Creek Golf Course to learn more.
And better yet, as a golf member at Rock Creek you have reciprocal rights at:
-
The Retreat Golf Course which is a stunning golf course with excellent conditions, a Hill Country feel, and some fantastic holes including a 200′ cascading waterfall plus a beautiful pool, outstanding 25,000 square foot club house with a pro shop, locker rooms, and restaurant and bar with panoramic views of the the rolling terrain and golf course – read our review of The Retreat Golf Course
-
The Cliffs at Possum Kingdom is our top rated public course because it’s scenery is stunning (unbelievable views of Possum Kingdom Lake from the ninth hole 200 feet above the lake), each of the holes is unique and fun to play, and it’s extremely challenging, but fair – read our review of The Cliffs to learn why we love this course – The Cliffs also has villas and condos and an inn (with fantastic views of Possum Kingdom Lake) for property owners or guests as well as a pool, marina with boat rentals, and a good restaurant
-
White Bluff on Lake Whitney has two great 18 hole championship courses (review of The Old Course and review of The New Course), a marina with boat rentals and guest slips, several great options for overnight lodging, pool, fun and lively bar, and good restaurant
