Lady Bird Lake, Formerly Town Lake

In fact there are over ten miles of flat trails that run on both sides of the lake that are excellent, walking, or biking. Here is a link to an interactive Lady Bird Lake trail map and here is a link to some things to do near the Trail. The trail around the lake is mostly flat, fairly wide, and very popular. It offers great views of the lake and the Austin skyline. The Lady Bird Lake trail has branches off to some of the other great Austin biking and hiking trails – here is a comprehensive list of Austin Trails.
Auditorium Shores on the south side of the Lake is home to many concerts and events and is perfect for some baseball, football, or soccer. You can’t swim in the Lake but you can rent an electric boat, a kayak/canoe, or standup paddleboard to explore the Lake and get some exercise. Here is a link to some places to rent kayaks or take a cruise on Lady Bird Lake. There are a few hotels that are on the shoreline of the Lake and from Lady Bird Lake you can easily walk or bike to lots of great restaurants, shops, and entertainment districts. See our Austin Page for more to do in Austin.

Where the city straddles the Colorado River, 2 dams mark the upstream and downstream ends of Lady Bird Lake, the focus of outdoor activity in downtown
Nearby the trails are plenty of fun restaurants with excellent food, fantastic outdoor patios, and live music. A couple of our favorites which are close to the trail include: Chuy’s for Mexican Food, Shady Grove for food and music on the patio, Aussie’s for burgers, beer, and volleyball. If you don’t have a bike, there are a couple places that you rent them that are near the trail.
