Rocks Alive! is a FREE, outdoor, come-and-go nature event for all ages – Acton Nature Center, Sept. 28, 2024, 10:00 AM-2:00 PM. What’s in a rock that sustains life? And soil – why do we need it? How about water, air, and even the sun? Discover why life would not exist without the physical foundations on which it relies. Interact with exhibitors to get the inside scoop on how rocks (geology), soil, water (surface and underground), and weather shape and support Texas landscapes and ecosystems. Go on a geology/ecology hike led by a local Texas Master Naturalist™. Interact with experts on geology, soils, water, weather, and more. There also will be hands-on learning activities for children – find a fossil, make sediment layers with moving water in a bottle, build a mini-ecosystem with rocks, soil, and other ecosystem components, and create pebble pictures. Also, there will be face painting for all!
