Guadalupe Mountains National Park is the world's premier example of a fossil reef from the Permian Era. The park is known for its extensive hiking and backpacking opportunities in one of the nation's most pristine wilderness areas. Guadalupe Peak is the tallest point in Texas at 8,751’ and there are 6 peaks in the park that are over 8,000'.
Once a rugged and ancient limestone reef, the Mountains rise more than 5,000 feet above the surrounding desert floor. Between the folds of this unparalleled landscape are lush streamside woodlands with oaks and maples, rocky canyons, and mountaintop forests of ponderosa pine and Douglas fir.
You can camp in two different campgrounds in the Guadalupe Mountains National Park:
Pine Spring Campground has 20 RV sites, 20 tent sites, and one corral site
Dog Canyon Campground has 9 tent sites and 4 RV sites plus one stock corral site
All of the camping is primitive with no reservations and there is potable water and restrooms. Generators are allowed between 8 AM and 8 PM. For groups of 10 to 20 people there are two groups sites that you can reserve.
