Tubac Golf Resort - Anza Nine

Tubac Golf Resort & Spa is home to 27 holes of golf that are a real joy to play.  Each nine has its own unique personality and characteristics, for example:

• Otero has eight of the Resort's original holes and it is the tighter of the three nines, lush from tee to green, and has the smallest greens
• Rancho is the toughest and most demanding of the three nines thanks to fairways lined with stately cottonwood and mesquite trees and it is known for two of the holes which were made famous by Kevin Costner's Tin Cup
• Anza is the newest of the nines and it has a desert links look and feel on the first five holes and concludes with four outstanding finishing holes

Common to all three nines is a first class resort, upscale stay and play lodging, excellent service, near perfect conditions, and beautiful scenery with two mountain ranges as the backdrop.  All three nines are very player friendly and designed to deliver a very playable and enjoyable round of golf. 

Tubac Golf Resort’s Anza course is the newest of the nines and opened for play in 2006 as a mixture of six new holes and three holes from one of the other nines.  This nine is the shortest with four tee boxes and yardages ranging from 2418 to 3241 yards – it also is a par 35 with two par 5s and three par 3s.  Anza gives you an opportunity to have a very relaxing and enjoyable round and head to the club house with a possible record low score. 

Anza's layout is very playable and more characteristic of resort courses with wide forgiving fairways and big greens.   Because Anza is more open, the prevailing winds can be challenging and you need to carefully manage them.  This nine also has several beautiful homes lining one side of the fairway. 

The first few holes have an open links and more of a desert course feel to them.  This nine is also the most scenic with panoramic views of the desert and Santa Rita Mountains to the east and another mountain range to the west.   Anza was also home to three of our favorite holes at Tubac Golf Resort & Spa:

• #4 is a downhill 243 yard par 3 that demands an accurate shot to carry the natural area and stuff it on a green guarded by two good sized bunkers – great hole and the view of the desert and mountains is stunning
• #5 is a phenomenal hole – a dogleg right 511 yard par five that requires a precise drive off the tee box and an accurate approach, from tee to green you'll need to avoid the six bunkers, natural areas, and two sparkling ponds – the yardage book states “Welcome to Tubac’s Amen Corner” and states that #5's green complex is reminiscent of the 12^th hole at Augusta – a beautiful, challenging, and fun hole
• #9 is a short 140 yard par three to a 34 yard deep island green with a bunker protecting the right front – the fans having lunch on the patio will frequently cheer for good shots, place bets on “will he make it,” or snicker with each kerplunk as your ball takes a dive into the lake

Like the other two nines at Tubac Golf Resort, Anza’s conditions are near perfect – the greens are in great shape, the fairways are lush and thick, the rough is perfect and playable, everything is well maintained, and the bunkers have good sand. 

Great nine holes that you will want to play again, and again, and again.  A great layout that is a blast to play.
