Review of Hill Country Golf & Guitar – Fender Course
Opened in November 2014 Hill Country Golf & Guitar is the place to go for a round of fun miniature golf, some drinks and food, and live music. All of which can be fun for young kids, teens, or adults.
The 18 hole par 3 course is well laid out to take advantage of the natural gently rolling terrain. The course horseshoes around an open lawn with a music stage with live music on the weekends, then heads slightly downhill and then back up the small hill to the base of the deck of the restaurant. Another 18 holes of golf is planned in the near future.
This mini golf course is no walk in the park – all of the holes have lots of slope, contour, or tiers, plus several holes have some boulders in the middle of the fairway. A different color artificial turf signifies a sand or grass bunker. You'll also encounter several dog leg holes, a water hole, a split fairway, and a couple horseshoe fairways.
The fairways at Hill Country Golf & Guitar are perfect as are greens. The greens are a little slow and have subtle breaks that you don't expect.
Some of the fun holes we really liked included:
- on #4 you'll need to putt over a narrow bridge that crosses a creek – miss the bridge and you hit rushing water headed toward the pond but if you're lucky you'll roll out of the water onto a grate and toward the pin otherwise your ball will go into the pond and float as it waits for you to retrieve it – wish my regular golf balls floated, I would have saved a fortune
- on #13 you have to make a decision off the tee box – head up and then take a sharp right and down to the hole or head up and then a sharp left down and under a bridge to the hole
- one hole (can't remember the number) is uphill off the tee box with a hole just before a sharp downhill slope and then right to the hole – you'll be tempted to go for the first hole (very hard to hit) which drops your ball down a tunnel leading to the cup
I lost to the grandkids but had a good time and was ready to head to the three tier deck for a margarita and some food. The Six String Grill has a great bar, inside seating, and lots of tables for dining and drinks on the tiered decks. In addition to beer, wine, and a variety of fancy drinks, Six String Grill serves:
- appetizers – fried pickles, sliders, wings, calamari, and more
- several salads as well as chili and soup
- unique sandwiches and burgers
- entrees ranging from fish and chips to flat iron steak and pasta to salmon plus several sides to go with the entrees
On the weekends there is live music and when we were there we enjoyed the Lucas Brothers Band – a good country cover band playing everything from Willie Nelson to Waylon Jennings to Buck Owens. While the grandkids played another round of mini-golf we loved sitting on the deck sipping a margarita, watching the sunset, and enjoying the music.
When the grandkids returned from their round I had to pay off my golf losses by giving them some change and letting them play the games in the Tree House. which is attached to the deck.
The Tree House is a place for teens to get away, play games and watch live music from above the lawn.
Bottom Line: great setting, fun 18 hole mini-golf course, reasonable prices, and music on the deck – how can you beat all of that!

Service is very friendly. The golf shop has scorecards, golf balls that float, and putters - all of which are included in your golf course fee.
