In 2002 the old Carswell Air Force Base golf course was redesigned by the City of Westworth and reopened as Hawks Creek Golf Club. It wasn't long before this great facility started to receive the recognition that it deserves – the Dallas Morning News rated Hawks Creek #5 in the State of Texas for mid-priced golf courses ($46-$70). From the minute you drive up to Hawks Creek, you know you are in for a treat. The club house and multi-tiered undulating circular putting green in front of the pro shop are very impressive, as is the golf course itself.
The fairways were in very good condition and the course is defined by mature trees, a couple lakes, a meandering stream that you have to cross on a number of holes, and strategically placed traps. Which means that even though the course is relatively short, there are plenty of challenges. To score well, you need some good course management. The front nine is tight and demands accuracy off the tee – you may consider leaving the driver in bag until you get to the back nine which is more open.
The Bent Grass greens were in very condition, about average size, very smooth, and true – and very fast. In fact, Hawks Creek claims the greens are some of fastest around and most of the time rolling at speeds of over 10.5 on the Stimpmeter. Make sure you practice putting before you head out for a great round on one of the best courses in the Metroplex. Enjoy!
