Review & Rating of El Nino Golf Course in Mission Texas
El Nino Golf Course was built by the residents of Mission West RV Park and it opened for play in 1999. This is a par 29 course with 7 par 3's ranging from 80 yards to 160 yards and 2 par 4s at 204 and 205 yards. From the back tees (there are two other tee boxes but the yardages aren't given) the course is 1285 yards. The holes are straightforward and traditional and from the tee box you can see the flag – number 6 a 205 yard par 4 has a slight dog right.
The fairways at El Nino Golf Course are flat and firm, lined with palm trees or small bushes, and are fairly tight. If you spay the ball you'll most likely be in another fairway, but you'll need to get through the palm trees back to your fairway. When we played the fairways were in poor condition with lots of weeds, some grass, and plenty of bare spots.
The greens at El Nino were interesting – a variety of shapes and sizes and ranged from small to about average. They were bumpy and slow when we played. Most had some contour and several had tiers, spines, or severe undulation and a couple were turtle back. For example, #4 is a shaped similar to a light bulb and has two significant ridges.
El Nino is not in the best condition but you can't expect much when the green fees are only $5 for residents and $8 for non-residents and that includes a push cart! We had fun practicing our short game and this is a course that any skill level can enjoy.
Watch out for the bunny on the fairway of 6 who acts as a marshall and may ask to see your scorecard or tell you to speed up your play!

Very friendly and helpful staff if they are around, if not the course uses the honor system for green fees. No real pro shop and the grill has water and candy bars plus coffee for a quarter. Push carts are available for free.
