Review & Rating of Bear Creek East Course in
Conveniently located less than a half mile from DFW airport, Bear Creek Golf Club offers 36 holes of very good golf. In addition to offering exceptional golf, Bear Creek is a perfect place to host a corporate event.
Bear Creek has been named among the "Top 50 Resort Courses in America" by Golf Digest and one of the "10 Great Places to Golf" by The Wall Street Journal which validates the challenge, allure, and shot values found on the two distinct layouts – the West and East Courses. Bear Creek has been the host to the PGA Tour Qualifiers, the Texas State Open, the AJGA National Tournament, the PGA National Golf Series, and NTPGA Sectional Tournaments.
We played the East course and really enjoyed it, particularly the front nine. It offered a little bit of everything that makes golf fun – great condition, good variety, blind shots, some good risk reward choices, dog legs, ups and downs, and pretty scenery. The course is relatively short at 6670 from the tips, but still requires good club selection from the tee box and precise approach shots to well protected greens.
When we played both the greens and fairways were in excellent condition and the course itself is very well maintained. The greens are about average size, average speed, and didn't seem that difficult to read. The back nine is more traditional, a little easier, and not quite as fun as the front. Avoid the traps, the sand is not the best on the back nine. We haven't played Bear Creek in awhile and in April 2016 a visitor send us this email: "I suggest you take another look at the condition of Bear Creek Golf Course in Dallas, Texas. Neither course is being well maintained. I play out here regularly. Traps need sand. The greens are inconsistent, rarely aerated and several have large areas of sand and no grass. Many of the tee boxes are so hard you can't get a tee in them. Also there are a lot of washed out areas with holes that need dirt and grass."
This is a fun course to play, an excellent value with a coupon or at twilight, and a course to add to your list. Make sure you check Bear Creek's website for some specials before you head out to play. In 2009 they had a fantastic Player Development Program – for example, for $29 a month you get unlimited use of the practice facilities, free participation in instructional clinics, 25% off merchandise, 10% off personalized instruction, and only have to pay for the cart fee when you play – can't beat that for a great deal on an outstanding course.

On our recent visit we found the service lacking - the staff wasn't very friendly, and the cart service was slow and had no food.
