Review & Rating of Texas 281 RV Park
Texas 281 RV Park is located in Spring Branch on what used to be an Angus cattle ranch in the 1940’s – in fact there are still cattle roaming outside the perimeter fence. In 1987 some of the ranch property was redone as a new RV park and the very cool limestone ranch house is now used as the Park’s club house, the old carriage house is now the showers and laundry room, and the limestone chapel still holds a Sunday service.
There are over 150 full hook-up sites, most of which are shaded by mature sprawling native live oak trees. The vast majority of the sites and the 18 mobile homes are for full-timers, however, there are always a handfull of sites that are kept open for short-term rental.
The paved roads are a little tight for big rigs but with care you should be able to get into your site. The Park is very clean and well maintained but some of the sites are showing their age and the electric hook-up posts are dated. The staff is friendly. We didn’t get to meet or talk to any of the locals.
Texas 281 RV Park is on Highway 281 and a half mile from Highway 46 which makes it ideal for exploring lots of cool cities and all that they offer for things to see and do – San Antonio, New Braunfels, Canyon Lake, Gruene, Blanco, Boerne, and more are all within 30 minutes or less! Walmart, CVS, HEB and several restaurants and are within 5 minutes.

A Typical Texas Outside Stay at Texas 281 RV Park
We stayed at Texas 281 RV Park because it was conveniently located to some activities that we wanted to do nearby.
First up on our agenda was a round of golf at River Crossing Golf Club, which is now private. What a fantastic course that's fun, fair, and well maintained. See our review of River Crossing Golf Club to learn more.
We loved playing River Crossing but unfortunately, it threw my back out, which means we had to cancel our tour at nearby Cascade Caverns and instead we headed to Max's Roadhouse for some tasty wings and a great Bloody Mary as well as some local craft beer. Then we went to Lao Orchard for some pretty good Thai food.
Following that, we headed up the road to Shade Tree to catch a couple sets from a trio of country singers. Shade Tree is a really cool venue with a large outdoor stage, pool tables, and good bar that also serves some pretty good food - burgers and such.
The next day we planned to tube or kayak the Guadalupe River - 5 minutes from Texas 281 RV Park - but the river was running a little slow and 3 hours of tubing and bouncing over some rocks didn't sound like fun or very good for my back! So, we spend a few hours swimming in the river and sippin' some cold beer.
That night we had dinner at Antlers and enjoyed a huge chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes, jalapeno mac and cheese, and a salad - very good and big enough to feed the wife and me and have a small portion left over for lunch the next day. We waddled out of Antlers and back to Max's Roadhouse to catch another country band.
We enjoyed a good lunch and a couple craft beers at the Dodging Duck Brewhaus in Boerne and strolled through downtown to check out some shops. Shopping made me hungry and thirst so before heading back to the motorhome we enjoyed a margartia and nachos at Ay Chiwawa in Spriing Branch.
A fun couple of days!
