In June 2007, we got word that Oakland Park is closed and is being turned into a day use park. Darn!
Oakland Park borders the northwestern shore of Lake Lewisville. This Corp of Engineer Park is dated and showing some signs of age – a lot of the RV sites are not very level and won’t accommodate a 35′ motor home. There are some good sites on the water and in a small cove which is good for swimming, fishing, and boat parking. Great place if you want an OK site right on the water on a fun lake. Read the Texas Outside review of Lake Lewisville.
If you don't have a boat, fish, swim, read a book, take a walk or bike ride around the campground or over to Westlake Park (just outside Oakland Park), play washers, or ladder golf.
If you have a boat, cruise over and marvel at the big houses at the far west end of the lake (about 2 miles from Oakland Park) or ski in that same area. Then head over to the party cove and join the fun. After that head to Charlies or Sneaky Petes for appetizers or diner and some music on the deck. Take a look at our review and rating of Lake Lewisville.
Near By:
Sneaky Petes is directly south of Oakland Park and is only a 15 minute dive -- head over for food, swimming in their pool or a pick up game of volleyball on one of the 4 courts. You can rent some water toys or take a parachute ride at Flying & Floating Toys.
Lewisville offers lots of things to do including golf, restaurants, shopping, and more. Check out the Golf Section of Texas Outside to find some nearby golf courses and the Discover Texas section of Texas Outside to find out what there is to do in Lewisville.
For a unique and very exciting and fun experience, you can charter a 70' beautiful catamaran and sail on Lake Lewisville. Check out Big D Cats for a day, evening, or dinner dance cruise.
