Profile
Lighthouse Resort and Marina on beautiful Lake Texoma is about 8 miles north of Pottsboro on Highway 120 and an easy 80 minute drive from Dallas. The Resort has a variety of completely furnished cabins, RV sites, a marina, and a ships store. Lighthouse is ideally suited for family outings, small reunions, and fishing trips. The terrain is gently sloping and well treed. The park is a little dated but well maintained and has a combination of paved and dirt roads.
Lighthouse Resort & Marina is open year round and positions themselves as “a serene family getaway place with breathtaking sunrises.” They are located on the west side and near the mouth of a large cove on Lake Texoma. You can read our review of Lake Texoma to learn more about this large and fun lake.
We stayed at Lighthouse a few weeks after the great flood of 2007 when the water was up over 27 feet and it destroyed or badly damaged Lighthouse’s ships store, some campsites and cabins, some of the marina slips, and other structures. Some of the pictures will reflect the damage. Park management is activity renovating and rebuilding as quickly as they can.
Lighthouse was built in the late 50’s and has changed hands a couple of times. As such most of the cabins are old and have 1960’s vintage appliances and furniture. The current managers bought Lighthouse in 2006 and are making a number of improvements and renovations. For example, 7 of the cabins have already been renovated and upgraded with everything from flooring to new appliances and furniture.

After a hearty breakfast, we will pack a lunch and head out to find some smooth water for skiing, boarding, or swimming. Depending on wind conditions and boat traffic, you can usually find some good water at the south end of the cove that Lighthouse is on, or along one of the shores protected by cliffs, or by the dam.
Texoma has some excellent sandy beaches that are very popular - you'll find some north of the dam by Burns Run or head west out of the cove about 20 minutes to the islands. Treasure Island and North Island are very cool spots to enjoy the beach, fun crowds, and smooth water.
We also enjoy heading to one of the restaurants for lunch or dinner - see the list below. And as an avid golfer, we have to play some of the local courses - click here to find one nearby - drag the map in any direction to find more courses nearby. If you are on the Oklahoma side of the lake, Chickasaw Pointe is an outstanding course and Buncombe Golf Course is a fun and challenging 9 holes. Near Pottsboro on Highway 82 is Northern Challenge and just down the road from Lighthouse is Tanglewood, a great resort course. Here is where you can find our reviews of these courses.
For some fun nightlife, we'll head into Buzzard's Too (903 786-5598) or Hootie Hoo's (903 786-9933 - home of the largest outdoor stage in north Texas) for music, drinks, and food. We also enjoy eating some good Cajun food at De Happy Cajun Restaurant (903 786-4909) which is just outside Pottsboro on 120.
There are (or were before the 2007 flood) a number of restaurants on the water. Some of the best include: Cedar Mills, Pomponos, and Grandpappy's - all were being renovated in the latter part of 2007 due to water damage, so call them before you head out. Alberta Creek, and Soldier Creek Resort & Marina have floating restaurants. Tanglewood Resort, at Lowes Highport, has an excellent restaurant, but it is up the hill and you may have a challenge finding a place to park the boat.
Texoma is one of the best houseboating lakes in Texas - lots of clear water, sandy beaches to spend the night on, good fishing, restaurants, and more. And houseboating can be one of the best family or friends vacations (at a very economical rate) that you will ever have. Go here to learn more about houseboating and to find some rentals.
If you don't have a boat, then you need to rent one to fish and explore this fantastic like. You can rent waverunners, pontoon boats, ski boats, kayaks, cabin cruisers, sailboats, and houseboats. In addition, you will find Air Boat Rides up the Red River, sailboat dinner cruises, and a paddle-wheel riverboat cruise. Here is where you will find more information on rentals, charters, and cruises.
Go fishing - stripers, or striped bass, thrive in Lake Texoma because of the lake's huge watershed, high saline content, and favorable spawning conditions found in the lake's two tributaries, the Red River and the Washita River. So every trip to Texoma should include some fishing - the best way to catch dinner or a new state record is to use one of these Texoma fishing guides. Four Seasons Guide Service (903 46-5262) offers fishing and hunting as well as Air Boat rides - a fun way to experience the Red River.
Go hunting - whitetail deer, turkey, dove, quail, and pheasant hunting is very popular in and around Lake Texoma - go fishing one day and hunting the next. See the Hunting Section of Texas Outside.
