Amenities and Fun Things To Do:

Hill Country Cottage & RV Resort has over 300 sites, some of which are dedicated to monthly rentals.  All of the sites have full hook-ups with 30/50 amp, sewer, and free wifi and cable.  Most of the sites are very level and have have patios and picnic tables.  There is ample room to maneuver the big rigs and the roads are paved and most of the sites are spacious, some up to 30' wide. Sites are a mixture of heavily to partially shaded. For you tent campers, there are tent sites with water and electricity.  Most of the sites have a gravel parking pad and a cement patio with a picnic table.

If you are tired of staying in expensive but small hotel rooms with mediocre service and limited amenities, then you should book one of the cottages (new in 2008 to  2010) at Hill Country Cottage & RV Resort. The one and two bedroom cottages are available for rent on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. The cottages will sleep from five to ten people and most of the cottages have a  queen bed in the downstairs bedroom, a sleeper sofa in the living room, and an upstairs loft with two double mattresses that the kids will love. Be aware that the loft is only three and a half feet tall and may not be suitable for older kids or adults.

The cottages are fully furnished - linens, towels and kitchen utensils, coffee maker, full sized refrigerator, stove and oven, toaster, and a microwave. The living area has a breakfast table with 4 chairs and a TV. The outside deck is perfect for sipping a cup of coffee or a cold drink. If you want to BBQ, there is a grill outside near the deck. Hill Country Cottage & RV Resort is in the process of adding additional and larger cottages.

On our last visit in 2014, we stayed in a two bedroom, two bath cottage that with a queen in each bedroom and two sleeper sofa couches in the living room.  The cottage was clean and well stocked - a very comfortable and enjoyable stay.

In addition to a great location and some good RV sites and lots of cottages, Hill Country Cottage & RV Resort is loaded with amenities to make your stay enjoyable. Some of the amenities include:

  • two indoor heated swimming pools and hot tubs and a sauna
  • an outdoor pool with water features and a hot tub
  • an exercise room with a lot of equipment
  • a game room with a pool table, shuffleboard, and a unique ping pong table, video games, and more
  • shaded areas with BBQ grills, tables, and chairs for get togethers or reunions

  • a new large hall for weddings, reunions, or retreats
  • sand volleyball court and horseshoes
  • three laundry rooms all with washers and dryers
  • and the kids will love the jumping pillow, jumping pad, the playscape, and trampoline

Some of the other things we liked about Hill Country Cottage & RV Resort are the availability of the Wall Street Journal and USA Today delivered each week day, the several fun planned events through out the year, and the clean and spacious bath houses with several individual bathrooms with showers

On our most recent visit to Hill Country Resort, we came down for Wurstfest and loved it - read about our Fun Weekend with golf, excellent music, good food, and lots of beer which also has a link to our review of Wurstfest.

If the horses are running its fun to zip down to Retama Park to see if we can win enough money to pay for our site or a dinner.

We had a blast tubing down the Comal River's clear, cool, and deep water.  This calm ride does include three fun chutes to add a little excitement to the trip.

After tubing in the morning, we took the grandkids to Texas Ski Ranch - a cable wakeboard park plus a trampoline park - and they had a blast.  Click on this link to Texas Ski Ranch to learn more.

For nightlife it's hard to beat the piano bar at AJ's Ale House or the music and good times at Poor Haus - which is rated "the best bar in New Braunfels."

Texas Outside Favorite Sites: All of the sites are pretty similar, so we like to get a pull through site that is near the pool. There are also two adjoining sections of Hill Country Cottage and RV Resort, we prefer the section nearest the office. The sites are a little smaller but they are well shaded. The Cottages closest to the pool are our favorites.

Texas Outside Campground Rating System

Texas Outside uses a tough rating scale and it’s difficult for a campground to get a “10”.  Each park is rated on:

  • Scenic Beauty: a campground that is flat with no trees or character gets a “1” and hills, lots of trees, beautiful lake site, and lush ground cover gets a “10”
  • Park Condition:  the cleaner, well kept, and maintained campgrounds receive high scores
  • Amenities: we are looking for lots of amenities like restrooms, dump stations, playgrounds, boat ramps, shelters, concession stand, rental toys, and more.
  • Campsites:  low scores are given for sites that are right next to each other (good for getting to know your neighbors, but not what we’re looking for when we’re camping); have no lantern holder, no water or electricity, no fire pit, no grill, or no picnic table (or it’s rotten wood); have no trees and no view; the ground cover is crushed rock (my bare feet hate that stuff!); and they require a lot of work to get your rig level.
  • Things To Do: Bonus points are given for campgrounds that offer lots of fun things to do at the park or very nearby – this includes: biking, hiking, climbing, boating, entertainment, golf, swimming, fishing, volleyball, horseshoes, and more
