Review of Canyon of the Eagles Campground
Canyon of the Eagles Campground sits on 940 acres of beautiful hill country terrain loaded with lots of wildlife, camping options, an observatory, over 14 miles of hiking trails, over 3 miles of Lake Buchanan shoreline, and a fantastic resort. There is a full hook-up RV park, a group camping area, and two primitive campgrounds at Canyon of the Eagles and all are designed to make you feel at home with nature. For all your friends and family who want to join you but won’t fit in your tent or camper, they can stay in one of 62 distinctive cottages at Canyon of the Eagles Resort which were patterned after 1920’s Hill Country Homes. Read our review of Canyon of the Eagles Resort to learn more about this outstanding Resort.
This is a perfect place to stay if you want to enjoy camping, Lake Buchanan, hiking, nature and birding, kayaking, and more and take advantage of resort amenities at Canyon of the Eagles.
Lower Colorado River Authority owns the property which was acquired in 1993 as part of its commitment to preserve natural resources for future generations and to provide science education, recreation, nature tourism opportunities and economic benefit to the region.
In 2009, Caliber Resorts took over management of the campgrounds and resort and poured a lot of money into renovation, improvements, and maintenance. On our last visit in April 2011, the Resort and campgrounds were very well manicured, very clean, and well maintained.

There is so much to see and do during a stay at Canyon of the Eagles, I usually have to come up with a daily activity grid for our stay. Some of the things we enjoy doing include:
- hike some of the trails and then head over to the resort pool to cool off
- enjoy a great dinner at the restaurant
- take the grandkids to one of the many kids activities at the Resort
- pile aboard our boat and explore Lake Buchanan - Canyon of the Eagles doesn't have a boat ramp but there is a public park about two miles down the road
- play golf on any of the several nearby golf courses
- play a round of frisbee golf - we make up our own holes around the campground using trees, fire pits, and more as the holes
- roast marshmallows on the fire pit for s'mores
- check out the stars at the observatory
- play a lot of dominos and devour some great campground meals
You shouldn't get bored during a stay at Canyon of the Eagles Campground.
Most likely once you arrive at Canyon of the Eagles Campground, you're going to want to park the vehicle, pull out the camp chairs and games and never leave the Park until it's time to hit the road for home.
If you do feel like venturing out here are some fun things to see and do that are nearby:

- call one of the Lake Buchanan fishing guides - they'll pick you up at the Canyon of the Eagles dock and take you to where the big ones are waiting
