Profile
Silver City KOA is a fantastic campground and RV park about 3 miles east of historic Silver City. The park is conveniently located to a major highway that provides access to lots of great things to see and do in and around Silver City. Silver City KOA owns 30 arcres on and around the park.
Silver City KOA has full hook-up sites, tent sites, and cabins. The sites are level and big rigs should be able to maneuver into most of the sites. The hook-ups are conveniently located. All of the roads and sites are crushed gravel.
Silver City KOA sits on a gently sloping hill with four tiers which gives all of the sites a good view of stunning sunsets. The park is very clean and well maintained.
Silver City KOA hosts several special events and during the summer season cooks a good breakfast which is served on the outdoor patio.
You'll also find some nice amenities and one of the friendliest, most outgoing, and helpful staffs we have encountered during our years of camping. Jackie, the owner of Silver City KOA, has vast knowledge of the area and what to see and do and she would love to share it with you.

On a trip from Dallas to California, we had heard a lot of good things about Silver City, so we went out of our way to spend a couple days exploring Sliver City and the surrounding area. And we regretted that we had not scheduled more time.
We expected to find a small historic mining community and were very surprised to find a vibrant and growing city with everything from art galleries to a Wal-Mart. In fact, National Geographic named Silver City as one of the "Top 50 Places To Live."
Shortly after pulling into KOA and getting some of their helpful staff's ideas on what to see and do, we set off to explore Silver City's Historic District. The historic district is several blocks of quaint shops (art galleries plus rock, bead, gem, and antique shops), restaurants, a museum, and lots more. After visiting some of the shops and the interesting museum we were long past due for a margarita and some Mexican food - and both were excellent at The Jalisco Cafe.
Good food was followed by checking out the local nightlife and the first stop was Issac's, which has a cozy bar and live music on Saturday night. From Issac's we stepped across the street to Buffalo Bar and caught a set from a pretty good country 3 piece band and played a couple games of pool with some of the locals. From there we headed to Billy's to end the evening with some Karaoke. A fun first day and night in Silver City.
The next morning we were off to hike the Catwalk of Whitewater Canyon, but first we had to stop at the highly recommended Blue Front Cafe in Glenwood to load up on some carbs. They serve a great burger and one of the best burritos I've ever had - tender pork rolled in a large four tortilla which is smothered with cheese and green hatch chili sauce, yum!
The Catwalk at Whitewater Canyon is fantastic. A very scenic hike along a cascading stream that has carved some sheer canyons out of the mountains. Miners built a catwalk that clings to the canyon walls, which in some places are only 20 feet wide and 250 deep. The catwalk has been restored by the park service and it's a great way to spend an afternoon hiking through some beautiful New Mexico mountains.
All that hiking sure makes a person hungry, which means we heading to the highly recommended Buckhorn Saloon & Opera House in the quaint mining town of Pinos Altos - which doesn't look like it has changed much since a group of Forty-Niners discovered gold nearby in 1859. The Buckhorn is a must visit - outstanding food, live music, unique setting, and excellent service.
The next morning we were trying to decide whether to golf or take a hike to the cliff dwellings but when we stepped outside and felt the wind bringing the temperature down to around 15, we decided it was time to head west to some warm weather.
Can't wait to come back when we can spend more time exploring all there is to see and do - and Silver City KOA is a perfect place to stay if you want to explore the area.
