Review of Ozona Country Club Golf Course
We were scheduled to play this 9 hole, 3026 yard, par 35 course during an overnight stay in Ozona, but we woke up to 35 degree weather and a forecast for rain. But we decided to head out there and check it out.
As we were driving up the road to the club house we came upon an older gentleman walking his dog and using a 7 iron as a walking stick. We stopped to ask him about the course and it turns out he is the current president of the Ozona Country Club! Very nice and funny gentleman who told us the course was in pretty rough shape because of the weather and membership had dropped to 50 members – "Ozona doesn't have a big golfing population."
The course was built in 1950, has 2 lakes, 2 bunkers guarding the greens, and most of the fairways are tree lined. There are 2 par 5s and 2 par 3s, and 5 par 4s. He stated "there's some trees in the way and the course can fool ya!" It's private but they do allow some public play for $15 a round. No golf carts are available but you might find a pull cart.
After enjoying a chat with him for 30 minutes we drove around to check out the course. The fairways are flat and tree lined and a tad tight and not in the best condition – as the President said "it's hard to find the money to water the greens with only 50 members!"
The greens at Ozona Country Club are flat and oval and a little below average condition.
