Review and Rating of Denton Country Club in Denton Texas

Denton Country Club is a private country club with tennis courts, a swimming pool, fitness center, dining services, and an excellent 18 hole golf course.  The Ralph Plummer designed golf course has been around since 1922 yet Denton Country Club remains a hidden gem.  This member owned golf course is spectacular with a whole lot of everything that keeps us coming back to play this tough and frustrating game.  During your round you'll encounter surprising elevation changes with beautiful views of the country side, water on 9 different holes, perfect sand bunkers, some unique and fun holes, a meandering creek that can cause some problems, and excellent greens plus a variety of shot making opportunities as well as some risk reward shots. 

Some of the holes at Denton Country Club that we really liked include:

• #1 was a huge surprise – an elevated tee box with a dramatic view and 440 yards down a tight tree lined fairway with a big bunker in your landing zone and a slight left to a green with water on it's right side
• #6 is a fun 341 yard par 4 with a risk reward opportunity off the tee box if you think you can carry a pond, trees, and bunker and stuff it on the fairway for a shorter approach shot
• #10 has a elevated tee shot, a hill to climb and then back down toward to an oblong green with a long bunker covering the entire front of the green
• #18 is a great finishing hole with an uphill dogleg right climb past some grass bunkers and 3 sand bunkers to a green set off to the right side

When we played in February the bent grass greens at Denton Country Club were in near perfect condition.  They were rolling fast at around 11 or more, ran true, and held the ball well.  The greens are a variety of shapes and sizes, some are raised, and all but one are guarded by one to three bunkers.  The greens don't have any dramatic contour or slope but they have plenty of subtle breaks that can surprise you. 

The bunkers were perfect – soft, fluffy, thick sand that was a joy to hit out of.  The bunker lips aren't real tall but tall enough to stop your ball from rolling out!  They were very well maintained and in excellent condition.

The fairways at Denton Country Club were also in very good condition.  They are all tree lined, some are tight, and most have some slope or contour.  The rough was dormant but looks like it would normally be thick and challenging.

Bottom – a great 18 that you should try to use some reciprocal rights to play!
