Profile
Nestled among the trees of East Texas and along the banks of Cedar Creek Lake about 70 miles southeast of Dallas, Cedar Creek Country Club offers it’s members 18 holes of very good golf and some great amenities. As a member you can enjoy tennis, a swimming pool, and a very nice relatively new (2004) club house complete with a well stocked pro shop, men’s and women’s locker room, bar, and full service restaurant – all in a friendly, laid back, and beautiful lakeside setting. Over 200 families enjoy relaxing country living on a big peninsula jutting out into Cedar Creek Lake. The Country Club has an active membership, a variety of regularly scheduled events and activities, and both a Men’s and Women’s Golf Association that sponsors tournaments and weekly outings. Initiation fees and monthly dues are very reasonable considering the quality of the golf course and the amenities.
The golf course was designed to take advantage of the natural landscape and provide an enjoyable round for the novice golfer and a challenging round for the seasoned golf. Cedar Creek Country Club was built over 30 years ago and it has the feel of a old traditional golf course – fairly open, mostly straight, typically flat, and forgiving. All of the Bermuda fairways at Cedar Creek are carved out of the East Texas hardwoods and the terrain is flat to gently rolling. Overall the course is not that challenging – most of the fairways are wide unless you have a bad hook or slice, the few traps are easy to avoid, and the greens are true and easy to read – you can score well here if you play the right set of tee boxes. Bottom line, when you play Cedar Creek you’re going to have a fun, relaxing, and enjoyable round.
When we played in December, everything was dormant but in above average condition – it was easy to imagine that in the summer the Bermuda fairways and Tif Bermuda greens would be lush and green. The pictures don’t do this course justice because they were taken in late December – the course would be very pretty in the summer. Cedar Creek GC is very well maintained and landscaped and is one of the few Texas golf courses that is recognized as an Audubon Society golf course interested in preserving its natural habitat.
Cedar Creek Country Club has some interesting and fun holes, for example, hole #16 is the #2 handicap at 395 yards from the tips. A pond takes up most of the fairway which means your tee shot has to be perfect or you’re wet. Same is true on the approach shot – the green is turtle top, miss it and you’ll roll off the green into a trap, the trees, or the lake. You’ll also find a number of tree trunks throughout the course that have been carved and sculptured into birds, fish, squirrels, and more.
Overall, Cedar Creek Country Club has an active and friendly membership, a great course, good clubhouse, and a number of good amenities – it’s well worth the price of membership. We can’t wait to get back to play the course when it’s lush and green.
